A SUGGESTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — The following is thrown out as a suggestion to those who are to lead off in getting up a public demonstration in honour of the West Coast Eailway:—A public holiday should be proclaimed throughout Canterbury, sufficient time being allowed for each district to organise an excursion. Both old and young should meet at an appointed rendezvous to join in celebrating an event which will be looked back upon years hence as marking a distinct era in the national life. The young people from every district would be in charge of their teachers and others who should be responsible for their supervision. The railway authorities will doubtless grant return fares at the lowest rate, and a magnificent success would certainly be the resulb. I, of course, assume that the railways would be equal to undertake the extra work.—l am, &c, . WESTWAED HO.
