His sire, " Young Scotsman," gained several prizes in the County Ayr. His grandsire, "Scotsman," gained the two first prizes in the Highland Agricultural Show. Terms, £4 4s. —ss. the Groom. To Stand this Season, At the Royal Hotel, Christchurch, rpHE thorough bred horse " LEADING X ARTICLE," by Sir Charles out of Brunette. "Leading Article " is a beautiful Dark Brown Horse, free from white, now rising six years old, with an excellent constitution. *: Leading Article,' was foaled at Nelson, where he won the Leger in J852, beating Mr. Timlin's Gipsey Queen, and on the following day, the Ladies' Purse, beating Mr. Newcomb's mare Vesta, and Mr. Godfrey's horse Silver Tail, Leading Article carrying 13 lbs. over weight: distance, one mile ami' 366' yards; run in 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Leading Article was trained for the Nelson races in 1853, and was the 'favourite for the Victualler's Purse of 3 miles against Mr. Redwood's celebrated horse Glancus, and Mr. Newcomb's horse Joe Miller, hut broke down in the race through an injury he had sustained in the Fetlock joint, notwithstanding, running a good second with Glaucus. "YOUNG SKELETON" is a chesnut horse, branded C H near shoulder, was bred by Mr. Charles. Hearne and was fouled in 1843, was got by the imported horse Skeleton out of a mare by the imported horse Steel trap, her sire the imported horse Egremont. Master Robert the sire of Skeleton was got .by Buffa out of Small Hopes by Scaramouch, her dam by Blank Traveller. * Buffa by Pantaloon out of a Herod mare. Pantaloon by Mateh'em out of Curiosity by Snap, lle-rulus, Liutus, Childers, {vide Stud Booh,p. 409 vol. 4.)
