A Miner Shoots His Sweetheart and Attempts Suicide. A sensational shooting case occurred at Nightcaps at II o’clock on Tuesday night, when Henry Reid, a miner, 22 years of ago, a Tasmanian, shot Lydia Gibbon (22 years of age), with whose parent* he lodged, and then attempted suicide. Reid had been paying attentions to Miss Gibbon, who had discouraged him, as she was engaged to marry another man. The two sat talking in the kitchen after all the others had retired, when shots were heard. The girl was lying in a pool of blood, with a ballet wound in the head, Reid was discovered down a well, with a bullet wound in the palate. Both are in a critical condition.
