LOWER SHOTOVER.

From, a cobsespondent. The annual social and dance in aid of the Lower Shotover ichool, was held in tha schoolhouse on Friday evening last. Ths weather being of a mild nature, together with the prospects of a good evening’s enjoyment, the social attracted a record attendance, many coming from all parts of tha district. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m. sharp, and continued thereon until the early hours of tha morning. At intervals songs were rendered by Mr Wicks, whose old-time ballads com* manded the attention of tha audience, by Mr Jno. Dagg, and Mr T. Healy, whose rendering of “ The Sunny Side of Life,” met with appreciation, and Mr J. Nicholson, in his budget of comic songs, amused the audience te their highest pitch. Recitations were _ also given by Messrs Wicks and EL Wilson. Too much praise cannot be given the energetic secretary, Mr J. Shaw, and tha committee in general. The committee desire to thank tha ladies for tha painstaking way in which they attended to the carrying out of the refreshments, to those who contributed songs, and Mrs May tie for her untiring duties ss pianist. Music was supplied by Mr Hillman (violin), and Mrs Mayne and Hr J. Nicholson piano. The duties of M.C. were in the capable bands at Mr H. Harris. The management committee are to be congratulated on the success of the social.
