N. M. and A. Coy's Wool Sale Report.
The first sale for 189G was held in Hanan’s Hall, Invercargill, on 3rd January. Tho total catalogues comprised about 5,600 bales. Owing to the wet weather, and also to the fact that tho bulk of the better class of wools had been sold privately, tho amount ollerered was much smaller than in previous years, but no doubt the next sale on sth February will be larger than usual. Our catalogue totalled 1300 bales of farmers’ clips, and we sold 1,200 bales at very satisfactory prices. The bidding for our catalogue was very spirited, and we can safely say that if the bulk of the good lots of wool had been submitted bo auction they would have done as well, if not better than selling them privately. Competition was very keen for light, bright - conditioned crossbreds, and several lots of light, bright halfbreds brought good prices. Pieces and bellies were extra well competed for. Very little merino offered. Average prices realised were Good crossbred, Sjtd to 9|d ; medium crossbred, 7h\ to B|d ; Good hnll'bi’ed, B|-d to S|-d ; medium half bred, 7d to 8d ; Merino, 51-d to 7d ; first pieces, 5-|cl to 6|d ; second pieces, 4£d to 5d ; bellies, 51 to Gd ; Locks, to 3d. Since the above sale prices have hardened.
