CRICKET. The match betwee* Blacks and Naseby will be played in Naseby on Thursday next FIRE INSURANCE. A very poorly attended meeting of those interested in fire insuiance was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening IOLh January.

Mr Guffie, Mayor of Naseby, ( who called the meeting), occupied the. chair, and explained to those present that the meeting had been called to take into consideration the rise in the fire insurance tariff, and if thought praticable, to formulate a scheme whereby insurance could be taken at lower rates. Mr Dawson, who advocated the formation of a local company, moved—That this meeting is of opinion that the time has arrived when a Mutual Guarantee Fire Insurance Society be formed in Naseby, and that a committee be appointed to draw up rules to that end. The motion was seconded by Mr Jones. The meeting took the form of a conversational discussion some speakers thinking that the idea was quite feasible, while others were cf the opinion that it could not be successfully carried out, but were quite willing to support it if it was proved at all feasible. Eventually Mr Wilson moved as an amendment to MrDawson’s motion and Mr Mitchell seconded—That this meeting pledges itself to support any fire insurance company outside of the existing combination either local, colonial, or foreign, provided ,_lhe rates he reasonable The amendmend was carried. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
