OBITUARY
Mrs Smith, Glenorchy
Glenorchy has lost one of its most popular residents in the death of Mrs Isla Harriet Smith, who passed away at Queenstown in her 41st year. This is the family’s second bereavement recently, as Mr McDonald died just a month ago. Mrs Smith was the daughter of the late Mr McDonald and Mrs McDonald, of Dunedin, and late of Mataura. Like Mr John Fraser, of Queenstown, who died the previous Sunday, Mrs Smith was an accomplished musician. She took her earlier examinations practically self-taught, and in them all she always passed with honours. Before her marriage she had some nursing and mental nursing training. Some 10 years ago she married Mr Laurence Smith, son of a well-known miner of the Lakes district, and she shared with her husband a pioneer life in the backblocks, first in Skippers and later at Glenorchy. She showed all the qualities of the old pioneer stock, in her endurance, capability, resource, and not least in her cheerfulness.
She leaves four small boys to their father’s care, all whom are upheld by the prayers and sympathy of their many friends.
“ No we see through a glass darkly, but then, face to face.”
Since the inception of the Lake County Mail Mr S. Smith has rendered valuable service to this newspaper as correspondent. The management extend to the relatives and friends their deepest sympathy.
