FOOTBALL NOTES

By Scrum-Half.

The Old Boys and Queenstown clash provided quite a few surprises, the biggest perhaps, that the Old Boys were going as well at the finish as at the beginning of play. The star of the' Old Boys’ team was their full-back, James McKinney, who .saved the side repeatedly by clever 1 ide-stepping, ducking and line kicking. Owen Wheatley is the fastest wing three-quarter in the district, and would not disgrace any of the competition teams, R. Robins and “ Snowy ” Hansen, although carrying a little surplus weight, played a great game in the tight and lasted the distance well. Lance Hanrahan showed that he has lost none of his old dash, and looked one of the most likely backs on the ground. Gerry Lynch, Fraser and Colin Gray, Jim Hood, and Joe Murdoch proved too tough a proposition for the Queenstown forwards, who. were playing far too loose and were not as fit as they

might have been.. Lee Forde has a* splendid pair of hands, and provided he runs straight will make a great inside back. Fred Rae played his usual honest ' game.

B. Buchanan and Jim Munro have a bad habit of kicking too hard in loose rushes, a little practice in the

art of dribbling would not go amiss. Jack Gibson was playing a solid game as extra full-back for Old Boys until he had to leave the field.

Mr. W, Melnnes, the local Zam Buk man, has been doing great work this season attending to minor injuries and applying the iodine freely. The work of Mr Melnnes and his men is greatly appreciated by. the players and club officials.

After witnessing the QueenstownOld Boys game from the Scotchman’s grandstand, a spectator would like to submit the following team to represent Wakatipu;—

Forwards: Ayson (A.), Murdoch (Old Boys), Douglas (C.), Reid (C.), F. Gray (Old Boys), Rae (Q.), Thwaites (Old Boys), Lynch (Old Boys). Backs: Robins (Old Hanrahan (Old Boys), Forde (Q.), J. Allan (C.), S. McLean (C.), O. Wheatley (Old Boys), J.' McKinney (Old Boys). Emergencies: R. Anderson (Q.), J. Sanders (C.), R. Robins (Old Boys), A. Scott (A.).
