PREMIER AND MAJOR DOUGLAS. “IF HE DOES NOT ARRIVE—” Calgary (Alberta), March 4. In a radio address here Mr. Aberhart, Alberta’s Premier, warned Major Douglas that if he did not respond to the invitation to come to Alberta as reconstruction adviser the Government would invite another expert. Mr. Aberhart expressed surprise at Major Douglas’s Statements that the contract did not entail the putting into operation of the Social Credit scheme. “I believe,” he added, “that the phrase ‘chief construction adviser’ covers the adoption of the plan.” According to Mr. C. Cockcroft, the Provincial Treasurer, Alberta has paid Major Douglas £1225. The difference between this amount and the £1290 cost of his services as tabled to the Legislature represents the expenses of printing the Douglas report and cables sent, Mr. Cockcroft explained when informed that Major Douglas denied receiving the latter amount.
While awaiting her Social Credit cheque, Mrs. Jennie Miller, of St. Lina, Alberta, has taken unique court proceedings, charging the municipal district with “wilfully omitting _to grant relief to herself and her children.”
