RUGBY UNION
FIRST MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ANOTHER SENIOR TEAM. The first meeting of the newlyelected Management Committee of the Maniapoto Rugby Sub-Union was held last evening, Mr. J. Anderson presiding over Messrs. Summerfield (Pio Pio) Eketone (Referees’ Association), Farrow (United), Cameron Waitete), Gresham (Te Kuiti), and Cotter (Juniors). A letter was received from footballers of Mairoa district asking if the Union would accept a senior team from that district. The Union decided to invite Mairoa into the Union’s competitions providing that the ground at Mairoa was suitable. A motion of appreciation for the attendance of St. John Ambulance men at the fields last year was carried, and the hope expressed that they would continue to attend this year. Notification was received that Matamata would be coming to Te Kuiti for a representative match on July 4 (Show week). The . Referees’ Association asked that the Referees’ Appointment Board should consist of one member, instead of three as hitherto. This request was acceded to with the proviso that the matter should be subject to review later in the season. Under this scheme appointments will be made sufficiently early for the Union, which meets fortnightly, to confirm them. Mr. R. Farrow was appointed delegate to the King Country Management Committee. Mr. Summerfield was appointed permanent delegate from Pio Pio to the Sub-Union, replacing Mr. N. Griffen, who is unable to attend. On Mr. Farrow’s motion it was decided that Cameron’s reinstatement from League to Rugby be referred to the King Country Rugby Union, with a strong recommendation that it should be granted. Clubs are to be notified that the rule regarding players turning out in proper regalia will be strictly enforced this season. The first meeting of the Junior Advisory.
