RAILWAY REVENUE
FIGURES STILL BUOYANT. THOUGH SLIGHT DECREASE. Revenue for outward traffic at the Te Kuiti station and subsidiary stations still remains buoyant, though for the lunar month ending 15th September, as compared with the corresponding month the previous year there has resulted a decrease of £215. In making this comparison, however, remark must be made of the phenomenal increase in traffic in 1933 as compared with 1932. For this September period in 1932 the total outward revenue was £3635. In 1933 for the same period it had jumped to £4822, and apparently is tending to consolidate about this mark, for the 1934 period the revenue was £4602.
A substantial rise this year in both the number of passengers carried and the revenue received resulted, 3430 being the number this year as against 3119, and £6OB the revenue as against £517. However, this position is not reflected when goods and live stock are considered. 1501 cattle and sheep were carried as against 2687 last year, 429 sheep and pigs as against 827, and 1691 tons of timber as against 2061. The outgoings of general goods, of which about two-thirds are lime, dropped from 3787 tons to 3563 tons. The total goods and stock revenue for the outward traffic for the month amounted to £3773, as against £4llß for the corresponding month last year, a decrease of £345, £9l of which is offset by the increased passenger trade.
