A CHARGE DENIED
EFFICIENCY OF ELECTRIC HEATER. The question of boiling water in the milking sheds on farms, a matter which has been before power supply authorities for many months, was revived at a meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board on Tuesday, when a letter was received from the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., containing the following remit passed at the annual conference of the company's suppliers' committees: —"That we draw the attention of the electric power boards to the fact that in many cases electric heaters are not satisfactory to the farmers, and request them to give the matter their consideration."
"It is hardly necessary for me to stress the paramount importance of an adequate supply of boiling water on farms, if the quality of our raw material is to reach the desired standard, and, in passing the resolution, our suppliers made it clear, during the discussion, that the average electric water heater did not meet requirements, for the reason that water sufficiently hot for sterilising purposes is not available when required," said Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of the dairy company, who asked what prospects there were of improvements being effected. "I would give the statement that electric water heaters do not give service a flat denial," said the chairman, M. J. Price. "The charge does not apply to this board. Our consumers are being given boiling water, and they are generally completely satisfied with the supply." Other speakers supported the chairman, and it was decided to reply to Mr. Parlane on the lines of Mr. Price's explanation.
