MOKAUITI.

W.D.F.U. (Own Correspondent). The Mokauiti Hall on October 7 was again the scene of one of the most successful dances of the season. Following the lead of Auckland, Te Kuiti, etc., the Mokauiti branch of the W.D.F.U. organised a “Back to Childhood” dance in aid of the funds of the local R.S.A. Thanks to the support of those from outside districts, a substantial sum will be handed over. The hall was crowded and presented an unusual sight with “children” in rompers, little girls, little boys, old-fashioned g'rls in “pinnies” and sunbonnets; schoolgirls in gym frocks; not forgetting “Poppy” the little negro girl, playi'ng marbles, skipping and quarrelling on the floor. The members of the branch extend hearty thanks to those outsiders who came “Back to Childhood” and helped so materially towards the success of the evening. Voting by those present resulted in Miss Scou as Poppy, winning the first ladies’ prize, and Miss Landy as the little boy, the second. Mr. Reilly as a girl won the first prize for the men, and Mr. H. Williams, as a little boy the second. The music supplied by the Mokauiti orchestra was excellent, and the duties of the M.C. were carried out ably by Miss Reilly and Mr. C. Kirk. Mr. Abbot again favoured all with an exhibition of his now famous stepdancing. After a most sumptuous supper provided by the members of the branch, dancing was continued until the early hours of the morning. Some of the dancers, it is feared, would arrive home just in time to start milking. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs Stubbing, of Ongarue. The monthly meeting of the Mokauiti branch was held in the hall on Wednesday, 11th inst., with Mrs. Shaw presiding. After some discussion it was decided to hold the annual sale of work and dance on November 25th. It is hoped that this year the sale will prove as successful as the last ones have been. This year the dance in connection with the sale of work will be a “Cap and Apron Dance.” The hostesses fer the afternoon were Mrs. and Miss Hughes. Another card evening was held as usual in the hall on Wednesday, llth. The number of players was a record this week, the parties becoming more popular each night. The winners were Mrs. Fraei and Mr. Paris.
