“What is a vitamin?” Professor B. E. Murphy asked Professor F. W. Hilgendorf at the Tariff Commission in Christchurch last week. “You may be able to tell me. It is something they could not explain in the North Island.” Professor Hilgendorf replied that a vitamin was a dietetic influence hot detectable by analytical methods, only by actual feeding trials. “Is it actually a physical thing, then?” asked Professor Murphy, and the answer was “Yes.”
