REINSTATING A CROSS.

TO COMMEMORATE CHRISTIAN MARTYRS. A PICTURESQUE CEREMONY. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 11.45 a.m.) Paris, October 25. The Times Rome correspondent states a picturesque ceremony accompanied the conveyance of a giant Cross, constructed from an olive tree from the Garden of Gethsemane, which is being erected in the Coliseum to replace the Cross commemorating Christian martyrs, which was removed in 1874 owing to archaeological enthusiasm and anti-clericalism. The crowds formed a procession to the Coliseum, which was illuminated, and sang “Te Dcum,” as the Cross was laid on to a bed of roses preparatory to installation on the original base, which has been re-discovered.
