TE KUITI RACING CLUB.

CONDITIONAL PERMIT.

THE SECOND DAY’S. RACING. Mr J. C. Rolleston, M.P., has forwarded the following wire to the secretary of the Te Kuiti Racing Club (Mr L. C. Hart on), which was yesterday received from the Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs: —- “I have decided, without prejudice to the permanent allocation to be made at the end of this month, to loan the Te Kuiti Racing Club a totalisator permit for one additional day’s racing this year.” The Minister has stated that he would not be in a position to make an allocation of the new permits until the end of the month, but as Ihe local club cannot issue its programme until it is known whether a permit for a second day will be given, the Minister lias granted the temporary concession, pending the permanent allocation of the new permits. Under the Gaming Act amendment passed by Parliament last session a very large number of applications from racing and trotting clubs for permits have been received. For the 12 racing permits available 46 applications, representing 55 days’ racing, have been recorded, and for the 19 trotting permits 29 applications, representing 38 days’ trotting, have been received.

In an interview at Wellington Mr Bollard stated that he did not anticipate any difficulty in making the allocation. “I have been in conference with the New Zealand racing and trotting authorities and with many of the clubs concerned,” he remarked, “and we are practically in agreement with about 75 per cent, of the applications. H is in deciding the other 25 per cent, of the claims made Mint very careful consideration is needed. There will, of course, be disappointed clubs when Ihe allocation is made, but there is one thing on which 1 can give an assurance, and that is I hat the applications made by all clubs will receive the very closest review before a decision is come to.”
