AWAKINO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The regular monthly meeting of the above council was held last Saturday at Waitanguru, the following being present, Crs Leech, chairman, Thoms, Kelly, Patterson and Old. The question of representation on Hospital Board was raised, and the chairman pointed out that nothing could be done until a vacancy occurred.

The petition from the settlers of the Mahoenui-Marokopa road, a3king the council to raise special loan to form culvert and metal four and a-half miles of same, waß reported upon, and the clerk was instructed to carry out the wishes of the petitioners. The notice of motion standing in the name of the chairman to rescind the motion striking Jd rate in the £ on unimproved value was withdrawn after councillors had exhaustively discussed same.

Crs Boddy and Kelly moved that a special rate be struck covering the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board levys., the amount of rate to be de> cided at a later period. In view of the recent creation of the council the clerk was instructed to write the Valuer-General asking if it Was possible for his department to collect the levy for the coming year. On the motion of Crs Old and Thoms, it was resolved that the plebiscite of ratepayers, and which closed on the 15th inst., be extended to June 12th, and rolls used at recent election of councillors be used. Circular letter from the Backblocks Association, asking for financial assistance towards the King Country court at Auckland Exhibition, was received. The clerk was instructed to acknowledge letter, and advising the the association that the council could not assist financially.

Cr Patterson brought forward a proposition asking council to take over the control of the Marokopa harbour and river. After considerable discussion it was decided :o hold further discussion until next meeting of council,

and Cr Patterson asked to have data bearing on subject for consideration.

It was resolved that Mr Garr, returning officer be thanked for the excellent manner in which he conducted the election of councillors in hiß capacity of returning officer.

On the motion of Crs Old and Kelly, Wednesday in each week was appointed as the day in which the clerk must be in attendance at his office, Ta Kuiti, to attend to county requirements.

Accounts to the amount of £B4 8s Id were passed for pavment.
