FOOTBALL.
On Saturday last the final game of the season was played. The contesting teams were the Maniapoto and King Country junior representatives. Maniapoto kicked off against a strong wind and soon after the start the local backs with a passing rush, nearly scored, the maroons forcing. E. Dunn cleverly stopped a strong Maniapoto forward rush, and a free-kick to the visitors gave them timely relief. The maroon forwards, with a good dribble, carried play into the local 25, the home forwards responding with a rush, headed by Kiri,'and again transferred play into the visitors' quarter. King Country were awarded a free-kick which the wind carried out of play. The first 20 minutes ended without a score. The local team, playing with the wind, made matters lively for their opponents. Lawrence was responsible for a fine run. From a scrum Lawrence transferred to Tewipa, who was pushed into touch just outside the visitors' line. E. Dunn marked and relieved. The weighty Maniapoto forwards compelled the maroons to force twice in quick succession. The 'maroon forwards with Atkinson in the lead, carried play to the local 25. A good passing run, in which most of the Mnaiapoto backs took part, ended in Tucker scoring. The kick at goal failed. Haif-time was called with the scores — Maniapoto ••• 3 King Country ... 0 In the second half the Maniapoto team again showed their superiority. After a few minutes' play Lawrence passed to Tucker, who again scored, the kick at goal being unsuccessful. In the final 20 minutes' spell tries were scored by W. Kito, which was converted by W. Kite, and Tewipa, which Kite also converted. E. Dunn scored the only try for the King Country, which was not converted. A friendly and open game thus ended with the score — Maniapoto ••• 16 King Country ... 3 Hira Poutawera gave every satisfaction as referee. The players who stood out prominently throughout the game were, in the Maniapoto team, Tucker, Lawrence, Tewipa, Kiri and Brown, and in the King Country team E. and H. Dunn, Atkinson, T. Bell and Jones, E. Dunn being particularly noticeable, and this player repeatedly saved his side by sound defensive work. There was a game between the Three King's College and St. Stephen's School, at Alexandra Park, Auckland, on No. 3 ground, on 17th inst. Three Kings' College won by 18 points to 6, the scores being by Thomas Anderson (2 tries). Wetini Hotu (2 tries), Aterea Eeweti (1 try), and a penalty by Edward Tetuhi for the winners, and Taumata Wereta ar.d Rewa Waiapu each scored a try for the losers. The Three Kings' team was as fol-lows:—Full-back F. Paikea; threequarters T. Anderson E. Te Tuhi W. Tangipo; five-eighth A. Reweti; half N. Hunt; forwards, K. Hemara, A. Hikaia, T. Ngataua, N. King, L. H. Turoa, R. Tamou; wing forwards, H. W. Mangakahia and R. Piripi.
