Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report: — We held our spring horse fair in the Ngaruawahia yards on Wednesday, 21st inst., when upwards of 200 horses came forward, including 50 draughts, the balance being hacks and light harness horses. The bidding throughout was brisk for draughts of all sorts, but light horses were not much in demand, with the exception of good harness horses and hacks which brought satisfactory prices: Unbroken draughts, heavy weights £34 to £34 10s, medium £3O to £3l, light draughts £2l to £2B, good hacks and harness horses £l4 103 to £ls ss, light sorts £8 to £8 10s, squibs £3 10s to £4 15s.

I At Ngaruawahia on Friday we sub- j imtted 623 head of cattle. There was a good demand for all classes, and the yard was cleared at most satisfactory prices. Two and a-half to three year steers made £4 18s to £5 2s, 15 month steesr £3 8s to £3 12s 6d, yearling steers £2 15s to £3 ss, mixed yearlings £2 5s to £2 12s 6d, calves 32s to 41s, yearling heifers, well grown and good quality £2 15s to £3 2s, others £2 6s to £2 12s, two year empty hefiers £3 12s 6d to £4 2s, dairy cows, £5 to £7 10s, springing heifers £6 5s to £6 17s 6d, backward heifers £4 to £'4 15s, aged cows £3 10s to £4. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Mutton.—The market is firm, and is advancing steadily, with a general active demand. The stock is moderate. Canterbury, 4id; North Island, 4d. Lamb.—The market is very firm, in anticipation of small arrivals. The stocks of lamb on hand are light. Canterbury, old; other than Canterbury, 5Jd. Beef. —A better demand. New Zealand hinds, 3Jd: fores, 2|d. Butter. —The market is firm; best quality New Zealand, small shipment ex Tainui, 115s; Victorian, this season's 116s; Danish, 116s; Siberian, 3065. . . Cheese. —The market is quiet and steady, no change in price—viz., New Zealand, 575. Hemp.—The market is quiet and steady, with not much demand, but prices are firm- New Zealand good fair, spot, £24 10s; New Zealand fair grade, £2l 10s; fair current Manila, £2l; for forward delivery, same price. Output of Manila for the week, 18,000 bales.
