KAIKOURA BRASS BAND

TENTH ANNUAL MEETING The tenth annual meeting of the re-organised Kaikoura Brass Band was held in the Band Room last evening, Mr A. S. Robinson (president) presiding over an attendance of 15 members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. B. Clark, A. G. Pratt, E. W. Harris, and W. F. Perrin. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr F. H. Flower was carried, members standing in silence. The secretary (the Rey. F. Robertson) reported that the Band had a playing membership of 19. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a loss of £6 1/2 on the year’s working. Election of Officers The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr F. J. Monk; president, Mr A. S. Robinson; vice-presidents, Messrs A'. W. Ball, J. K. Chapman, A. B. Clark, W. A. Nelson, and W. F. Perrin; conductor, Mr Ei J. Williams; band-master. Rev. F. Robertson; band-sergeant, Mr R. Mahoney; hon. secretary, Rev. F. Robertson; hon. treasurer, Mr J. P. Smith; committee, Messrs E. W. Harris, H. Austin, W. D. Sabiston. Lud. Smith, and F. Taylor; auditor, Mr S. R. O’Callaghan; drum-major, Mr A. W. Ball. General Tributes were paid.to Mr E. J. Williams for the able manner in which he had taken over the conductorship of the band in the past year. It was moved and seconded that the annual subscription be fixed at each annual meeting. A music committee was set up, consisting of the conductor, band-master, and Mr H. Austin. It was decided that each members subscription for the ensuing year be put to the purpose of buying a uniform blazer. It was decided to hold a picnic in the near future. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officers. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to the Press and the chairman.
