AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
SCHEME FOR REBUILDING AUCKLAND, October 26. A scheme for the rebuilding of the Auckland Hospital on modern lines at an estimated cost, with equipment, of nearly £750,000 was submitted to the Auckland Hospital Board at a special meeting to-night by Mr A. G. Stephenson, principal of Stephenson, Meldrum, and Turner, architects, o± Sydney and Melbourne. The architects, in a preliminary report, propose the erection on a site now partly occupied by the old main building of a sevenstory block containing ultimately 650 beds', together with operating theatres, all social departments, kitchens, and administrative offices, at a total cost of £650.000. Alternatively, they suggest that the first section of the .building be erected, to contain 386 beds and all the services mentioned, at a cost of £450,000. . It is stated that, as a preliminary to other building operations, it will be necessary to erect a new boiler house on a specified site at a cost, with plant, of £57,300. It is proposed that a new laundry shall be built nearby at a cost of £30,000.
