ANNUAL REPORT
REVIEW BY CHAIRMAN YEAR’S OPERATIONS « ■ PATETONGA FARMERS MEET In presenting his report at the annual meeting of the Patetonga branch of Federated Farmers held recently, the chairman, Mr T. J. O’Dwyer, said:— “This is the fourth annual meeting of this branch of Federated Farmers and I am pleased to report that the branch has, during the past 12 months, Continued to serve the district in
numerous ways, apart from being a branch of a Dominion movement where farmers gather for the discussion and dissemination of farmers affairs and information.
“The membership is now 63 and we look forward to the day when the few remaining farmers are also members. “The branch has met monthly for 11 months, plus one additional meeting called to discuss licensing. “In the sphere of local affairs a perusal of the minute book shows a wide variety of interests. No doubt, pride of place would go*to the representations made to the Licensing Control Commission as to the suitability of Patetonga as an hotel site. The case presented by the deputation was such as to draw forth commendation from the commission’s chairman. While as yet no license has been granted neither have we been refused. “A deputation also approached the Hauraki Plains County Council with a view to getting the road to Morrinsville sealed. This matter is still being proceeded with. The branch has from time to time acceded tq members requests for assistance in reading and drainage matters and, while quite a bit hds been done in this direction, there is still a lot to be done. “Our district is fortunate also in having a direct representative on the Hauraki Catchment Board. Here again it was only through the strenuous efforts of this branch that we are today in that fortunate position.
“There are quite a lot of additional items such as contacts with the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, Ltd., for better saleyard facilities, lending of support to additional traffic licenses, better signposting to mention but a lew. The above will show’ that the branch is a very valuable orgarysation. “Apart from this an active interest is taken in farming affairs. Our organisation is still suffering from the fact that being a reconstituted body, there is a lot of organising work to be done and this is interfering to* a certain extent with activities of a day to day nature. Nevertheless as far as this district is concerned our organisation is active and if need be, vital matters in the farming world can be discussed almost immediately.
“In conclusion might I thank those members who have so regularly attended. Might I particularly thank one and all, for their patience and co-operation during my term as chairman. And finally might Ibe permitted to place on record the very valuable services rendered byjror very efficient sectrotary, Mr 0. NL/Cjpldwell.”
