VERY CONCERNED
WATER SUPPLY TO PLAINS PROBLEM FOR TH£ COUNCIL Concern regarding the supply of water to farms on the Hauraki Plains has been felt by members of the Hauraki Plains County Council and during February some members of the council inspected th'e two supplies at present serving the Plains and also viewed possible auxiliary sources.
At the March meeting of the council the acting county clerk, Mr L. E. Smith, reported on the tour of inspection as follows: ‘West water supply: An inspection was carried out of the Waitakaruru stream at the dam and of the Waikumete, Torehape, Ngarua, Waikaka and Mangawhero streams.
“East water supply: The council inspected the intake and adjacent areas of the Apakura stream and the volume of water in the Canoe creek. Concern was expressed at the low level of the Apakura stream.
“Waitawhera stream: An in—spect ion was also made of this stream. Councillors who made the tour were the chairman, Mr C. W. Parfitt, and Crs. J. F. Mayn, D. G. McMillan, W. H. Heale, C. W. Schultz, F. Pinchess and T. M. O’Carroll. After some discussion when councillors reported great concern it was decided that a special meeting of the council be held on Wednesday, March 15, when the question of future water supply could be fully considered.
