ACTIVITIES THE BAY VISIT OF EXECUTIVE PENDING The February meeting of the Mercury Bay Women’s Institute was held in the hall, Whitianga, Mrs L. D. Russell, president, being in the chair. Birthday buttonholes were presented to Mesdameo Bronlond, Alex White, Rowley Smith and W. Hughes. Four visitors were welcomed to the meeting and they were presented with buttonholes by Mrs Russell. Mrs Oxley reported that 221bs. of food had been sent to the institute’s link at Pewsey, England, and lifts, of soap to Lhnpsfield, Surrey. It was decided to hire a bus to take members to the group meeting and Thames Coast institute’s birthday
party. Members of the executive were to be be present at tho Mercury Bay Women’s Institute’s birthday party which would coincide with their visit. Mrs Sharpies and Mrs Crabb would be responsible for the entertainment of visitors. It was decided to send a delegate to the Dominion conference at Christchurch in July next. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr Dale for keeping a collection box for the crippled children’s fund on his premises. When opened recently the box contained £2/110/which wes sent to the society. An invitation for institute members to visit Mrs Harsant’e home at Nahei was accepted with enthusiasm. The roll call, “weather sayings,” met with a good response. Mrs Oxley conducted a bring and buy which brought in £l/11/-. Mesdames Oxley, Hooker end A. Chaney served supper. Best vase, Mrs Lee, 1; Mrs Bronhmd, 2. Best bloom, Mrs Lee, 1; Mrs Russell, 2. Best head, Mrs Bronlund, 1; Mrs Lee, 2. Covered coat hanger, Mrs Bronlund, 1; Mrs Lee, 2. Uncooked cake, Mrs Bronlund.
