MACHINERY LOAN

POLL TO BE TAKEN TOTAL OF £26,000 COUNTY COUNCIL APPROVES The proposal to apply to the Loans Board for a £26,000 machinery loan wag discussed at the special meeting of the Coromandel County Council held recently.

The application form was read in detail, the notice of intention had been advertised and one objection received.

It was proposed by Cr. F. H. Purdom seconded by the chairman, Mr E. Deeble, that the application to the Loans Board be completed so as to obtain the permission to take a poll of ratepayers on the proposal to borrow the sum of £26,000 for various items of plant as advertised. The motion was carried unanimously. After discussed a resolution was carried that application be made to the Loans Board to obtain permission to take a poll of ratepayers on the proposal to borrow the sum of £3,800 for the purpose of reconstructing and adding a new wing to the county council chambers at Coromandel. The question of building offices on on a new site was brought up for discussion as an urgency. It was reported that the floor had dropped further and doors were difficult to open. During a shower a few weeks ago water penetrated in to the county clerk’s room necessitating the removal of files, etc. “When rain does come after all this dry weather goodness only knows what will happen,” said Mr. Lucas, the county clerk. Cr. A. J. Denize spoke in favour of leaving the old building where it was and doing it up again.

It was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the works committee to confer with Mr Pike to obtain a firm price to be submitted to the next meeting for the removal to a new site and urgent repairs necessary to carry on with.
