PAEROA EXCHANGE NEW SWITCHBOARD ’ NOW LN OPERATION > A new switchboard which will accommodate one hundred new* lines has . been installed a,t \ the Paeroa telephone exchange ,1 and is now operating. \ This switchboard will function ini' addition to the present boa,rd and should overcome all local telegraphic problems for some time to come, ; stated the postmaster, Mr C. W. Wil- , liams to a Gazette representative. It will relieve the congestion which ha® been felt for a number of months and will accommodate many new appli- . cants in the town area. “ The present equipment has been overtaxed for quite a considerable ,time and we have had no exchange ( switchboard on which to allocate numbers for new subscribers,” said Mr Williams. ' AUTOMATIC EXCHANGE NO DEFINITE INFORMATION } No further details in regard to the proposed new automatic telephony ex- > change for Paeroa have been made available to the postmaster as yet, although it is thought that the plans 1 for the new building and its equipment are being contemplated. ' * Upon the suggestion from the Paeroa Borough Council that flower beds be cultivated behipd the present post office building, Mr Williams replied that when the plans for the new exchange are being prepared this request would be taken into consideration. ! The postmaster expressed the 1 opinion that it would be at least three or four years before Paeroa had an automatic exchange working.
