COW-SAVING
PRIMARY PRODUCTION SCHEME
AREA OF GRAZING LAND Perturbed at the loss of production which occurs in this district each year through cows which have not come into profit, and which are otherwise good dairying stock, being discarded and sent out as boners, the Thames District Council of Primary Production has.made arrangements with the Crown Lands Department to have an area of land set aside where grazing can be made available at reasonable rates.
This grazing scheme is only applicable to sound cows which through some reason have not come into profit, and is inaugurated only to save sound cows.
The scheme will provide grazing for about 200 cows, and the area conconcerned, the Crown land reserve suitable on the Waitakaruru Canal at the junction of the Waikamiti Stream, is of about 250 acres, fenced into three blocks and watered, with a further 45 acres as a reserve to be used if necessary.
The charges will be . 1/6 a head weekly, and supervision will be carried out three days each week by the Lands Department. Every care will be taken but absolutely no responsibility will be accepted.
The department will take delive’y at either the Ngatea or Waitakaruru saleyards and further details . are available from members of the council or committeemen. Early notification bv farmers is essential, as the scheme largely depends on the department being advised as soon as possible what stock is offering.
