GRANT FOR ROAD

COUNCIL HAS NO KNOWLEDGE LETTER TO OHINEMURI COUNTY A complaint from the Tamatera Tribal 'Committee, 'Paeroa, that since the authorisation iby the Minister of Public Works of a, 1 grant of £75 for the purpose, nothing- had been done towards the formation of the road to Mr H. Peke’s property on Mill road, was received by the Ohinemuri County Council at its November meeting. The tribal committee requested to be informed how soon the work would be commenced by the council. The chairman (Cr. T. A. Barrett) replying to Cr. S. H; Thompson said he was not aware of any grants' that had been made in connection with the formation of the road in question, which he considered 1 an impossible proposition for the council to under.take.

The county engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw said the part of the area where this road was proposed l to Ibe formed; was for the greater part of the winter submerged under six inches of water, and if filling had to be carted to it the job would prove rather an expensive one. He knew nothing of any subsidy for forming a road.

On the motion of Cr. A. F. Thorp .seconded by 'Cr. L. H. Franklin, it was resolved that the tribal committee be informed that the council was unaware of any grant having been .made, as stated' in the letter, towards the formation of the suggested l road, and that it be pointed out that this was the committee’s first letter to the on the matter.
