THAMES VALLEY CLUB TESTING COMPETITIONS FULL AFTERNOON AT WAIHI The Thames l Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club held a meeting at Waihi recently, Mi’ Wm. Junior Cup, for two-year-olds.— J. E. Parsons’ Bellford’ iLena, 5561 b. fat in 325' days, 1; Wm. Muir’s Goldfieldsl Dusky, 4671 b. fat in 365 days, 2; Chas. Townshend and Sons’ Bellwin Windsor Lass, 4212 lb. fat in 305 days, 3; Chas., Townshend and Sons’’ Bellwin Welcome Maid, 4091 b. fat in 286 days, 4. As Mr Parsons has sold his two entries, no award was made pending a decision by the New Zealand Association. Messrs Geo. Buchanan and B. E. Veale who have been club members since 1920 when the club was inaugurated, were unanimously elected 1 life members.

The following new members were elected:—Messrs R. Adam Jnr., Paeroa; S. Mercer, Puriri; J. I. Olli ver, Waihi; J. Schuler, Nether ton; W. Hollis, Waihi; F. R. Brake, Katikati; W. Rapltey, Katikati and: Ranchod Manga, Paeroa. Oaks Entries Good entries, 40 in all, were received for the 1945 Jersey Oaks, the first exhibit of which was at the Hauraki A. and P. Show. Bull Fair Statement The secretary presented the statement of the club spring bull fair. Receipts showed a credit balance of £3 2s Bd. A total of £96 4s. was passed for payment. The New 'Zealand classification committe advised' that its annual inspection would commence in this area on Thursday, November 29. Mr Geo. Dawick, the New Zealand Association secretary would be accompanying the party and would be prepared to exhibit moving pictures taken at some of the leading Jersey studs both in New Zealand and abroad' where suitable dates could be arranged. These would be open to anyone interested. Field Afternoon The first field afternoon of the 1945-46 series was held at the Goldfields Stud at Waihi Plains, the property of the club president, Mr Win. Muir. Favoured with peifect weather, a good assembly of club members, dairymen, high school students and other visitors gathered early in the afternoon. Mr Edgar Hoffman who is an official judge, gave a very instructive demonstration on “Greencroft Lola,” VJH.C., now 15 years old and with a splendid lifetime merit record and still producing. The usual judging competition was held and the competitions returning cards nearest to the judge’s were:— Ladies: Mrs H. Edwards 1, Miss M. Jones 2, Miss l Leyden 3. Men: P. G. Lindsay 1, A. H. Blackmore 2, R. Adam 3. ‘ Boys: D. Edwards 1, R. Daines 2, Bruce Townshend 3. A vote of thanks to the judge and Mr and Mrs Muir at afternoon tea was passed.
