OBITUARY
MR HARNAM SINGH
■RESIDENT OF WAITAKARURU
The death occurred at the Thames Hospital on July 5 of Mr Harnam Singh of Waitakaruru.
iMr Singh was a well known 1 and respected member of the community. With his brother he worked on several farms until they bought in in Miranda road some -five years l ago.
It is believed that his wife resides in India, and some years ago his son visited him here, but returned to his own country.
MR J. L. ROUNTREE
WELL KNOWN PLAINS SETTLER
The death is announced of 'Mr James Leonard Rountree, a wellknown settler of the Hauraki Plains, at the age of 64.
Mr Rountree was born in Canterbury and' as a young man came to the North Island, taking a position with the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency company, later being appointed the company’s agent at Papakura.
When the Hauraki Plains were thrown open for settlement, 'Mr Rountree was successful in the first ballot for a section at Mangatarata. This' he brought into production and had resided there up to the time of his death. During his; long residence in the district Mr Rountree took a keen interest in all matters that had' for their object the betterment of the district. He was a prominent member of the Farmers’ Union and took a keen interest in football and cricket. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity and a Past Master of Lodge Hauraki Plains. He is survived Iby his wife, one son (overeas)' and three daughters. A service was held at (St George s Church Thames on Wednesday prior to interment at Totara Cemetery, Thames.
