PRESENTATION MADE

FUNCTION HELD AT TURUA

L.A.C. D. MILLER ENTERTAINED

On Monday, July 2, a very' wellattended social and dance was held in the Turua Public Hall to farewell L.A.C. Derek Miller. The music was supplied by Herb. Walker and l his orchestra and an after-supper extra was given by Miss G. Fox. The duties of iM.C. were in the capable hands of Mr J. 'Pye who kept the evening going,, so making it enjoyable to all present.

Musical items were given by Mrs E. A. Clark who sang “The Sweetest Call” and “I Passed By Your Window.” Mrs C. K. Fox sang “ Five Little Piccaninnies” and “Little Irish Girl,” while Miss May Johnston gave an ever-popular tap dance. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Bert Maunder and Polly Jamieson. Well-Known Resident Mr H. Hicks, speaking on behalf of the Turua (Patriotic Committee and those present, stated that Derek was a well-known and popular iboy. He had been born and 'bred in Turua and was the son of a well-known family. He said he was particularly pleased to see Derek’s grandparents present, Mr ' and Mrs J. C. Miller Snr., of Thames, who had made a special trip for the occasion. He added he was sure Derek would uphold the traditions of the New Zealander and do his job well. He wished him good luck and a safe return.

After the usual .presentation musical honours’ were accorded the guest who then suitably replied! -thanking all for coming along.
