SEASON OPENED
CROQUET AND BOWLING CLUBS FUNCTION AT MERCURY (BAY The weather was perfect for the official opening of the Whitianga Bowling and Croquet Clubs. The greens were in good order. A large attendance of members and 1 visitors made the afternoon a pleasant one. The president of the bowling club, Mr T. L. C. Lowe, welcomed) the visitors and in a few words wished the club a successful season. He then called on Mrs Lowe to play the first ball and declared the green open. Mr Lowe also opened the croquet greens. Mrs Lowe again played the first ball through the hoop and Mr Lowe declared the croquet club open. The members of the croquet club, assisted by other ladies of the district, served a marvellous afternoon tea and were congratulated l by many present. They received several good donations towards their fund. There was a fair number of visitors from Coromandel Bowling Club present. Onehunga and St. Helier’s Bay were also represented. Play was keen during the afternoon.
