FANCY DRESS

DANCE AT COROMANDEL SUCCESSFUL EVENING PATRIOTIC FUNDS ASSISTED A most successful masquerade and fancy dress dance was held in St. George’s Hall, Coromandel, on Friday, September 1. Organised by the staff of the Farmers’ Trading Co., the effort in aid of patriotic funds was well worth while, and l a very happy time was spent by all. The parade of fancy and masked patrons took place at 9 p.m. and presented a gay scene, the large number of varied costumes making a spectacular sight. The brightly coloured frocks, showed up the men’s darker suits' and presented a pleasing contrast. The judges had a very difficult task. The winners of the fancy dresses were Jas follows: —'Best pair, Cowboy and Cowgirl, Misses V. Davies and L. Barclay; best lady, Miss A. Ander-

son, Spanish Lady; best man, Stalin, Mr E. W. Gilliver; best boy, Dorothy Gamble, as Little (Boy; best girl, Peggy Sole, as a young man. Worthy of mention was a group comprised of Mr Churchill, 'President Roosevelt, Stalin, Hitler, Tojo and Mussolini and Madame Chiang Kai Shek.

The music for the dlancing was supplied by Mrs E. M. Lucas and Lee Perfect and an extra polonaise was played by Misses I. Pepper and B. Davies. Mr Eric 'Gamble acted as M.C. and Mr Knight officiated at the door.

A committee of ladies by members of the Farmers’ Trading Company staff served a tasty supper.

The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Mrs Fisher and Daisy Compton. Among those present were:— . Miss P. Ward, Prince Charming; Miss M. Price, Lady Pompadour; Mr 'E. W. Gilliver, Stalin; Mrs. 'Gilliver, Tojo; Mrs Anderson, Mussolini; Mrs D. Strongman, Churchill; Mrs Pringle, Roosevelt; Mrs E. Turner, Madame Chiang Kai Shek; Mr :C. H. Mr Murphy on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, expressed thanks to the staff of the Farmers’ Trading Co., and those who had helped to make the evening such a success. Dancing concluded at 1 a.m'.
