INSTITUTE’S ANNUAL MEETING OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The annual meeting of the Paeroa sub-branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held in the Paeroa District High School on Tuesday afternoon when the following officers were elected: —President, Mr C. W. Malcolm (Netherton); vicepresidents, Messrs A. E. Day (Paeroa) and C. R. Briggs (Karangahake); secretary and treasurer, Mr R. P. Callaway (Paeroa); delegate to the Auckland Managing Committee, Mr C. W. Malcolm; executive, Messrs J. R. Bell (Hikutaia), J. P, Caisley (Komata North), R. Greenslade (Paeroa), Misses K. Tarrant (Paeroa), G. Gwilliam (Paeroa) and M. B. Murphy (Netherton). Among the many remits which will be considered at the Dominion Council at Christchurch in May and which is strongly supported by tins subbranch is the urging of the.-Govern-ment to take immediate steps to ensure that the fuller information of parents regarding the upbringing of children be undertaken. In view of the recognised fact that the teach ng profession cannot possibly accomplish the major part of character training, which is, and always \ will be, primarily the responsibility of parents. Members agreed that there was cause for the general concern being expressed by educationalists regarding the effects upon the child’s progress and mental development of late nights and lack of proper hours of rest.
