A GOOD EFFORT
COLVILLE PATRIOTIC WORK AUCTION HELD IN HALL On 'Saturday last in the Colville Hall a small number of people contributed. nearly £2Ol to the local patriotic effort. After the weekly Home Guard parade was over and the guardsmen had been generously treated to afternoon tea by the ladies, SergeantMajor T. V. Whittle took charge of the floor and proceeded to dispose -of a quantity of produce that had been brought into the hall earlier in the day.
In his usual racy and jocular manner he kept the guardsmen and the remainder of the public in good humour and succeeded in finding buyers for everything from sponge sandwiches to pumpkin pairs with the result as stated above.
Captain J. H. Lucas, as secretary of the Inter-Zone Committee, then returned thanks for the ’ wonderful effort put up in such a short time. It is understood that a dance was held in the evening when the full £2O was reached.
