WHARVES IN COUNTY

QUESTION OF CONTROL

ENGINEER TO (SEE MINISTER

A long discussion took place at the monthly meeting of the Coromandel County Council on the matter of wharves and. wharfage dues and regulations. The engineer, Mr A. H. Benham, suggested that fresh clauses be included in the Order-in-Council which has now expired by effluxion of time. After considering the wharfage dues, management etc., it was finally proposed by Cr. J. E. Jackson and seconded by Cr. T. V. Whitte, that the county engineer be instructed to proceed to Wellington and interview the Minister of Marine regarding the matter of wharves control and that he be empowered to finalise the matter on behalf of the council.—Carried.

Mr E. M. Minifie put forward the views and wishes of his riding settlers in no uncertain manner and was only placated when informed that the matter of wharves would be finally dealt with and approved at next meeting, following Mr Benham’s return from Wellington.
