MARITANA LAUNCHED
NEW COROMANDEL VESSEL TOOK THE WATER ON SUNDAY At approximately 8 a.m. on (Sunday morning, the launch Maritana took the water, watched by a small number of residents. The new launch is a vessel of 65ft. length, 14ft. 6in. beam, and is owned by Mr S. Strongman. Although the hull was built m Auckland, Mr Strongman has practically rebuilt it, putting in a second skin made from kauri planks which he had pit sawn himself.
The Maritana will be running in about a month’s time in place of the
M.V. “Wee Pat.”
She was christened .by the owner’s daughter, Miss Pat Strongman. An attempt was made to launch the boat a fortnight ago, but the tide ran out too quickly; on this occasion a large number of spectators was present to see th© launching. Considerable interest has been displayed, but owing to the dirty weather, there was only a small crowd to see her take the water.
