FARMERS IN THE ARMY FINANCIAL AID NEEDED FARMERS’ UNION PROPOSAL The necessity of providing financial help to soldiers on active service and to their parents who were carrying on while the boys were away was raised by Mr E. Jamieson (Matatoki), at the annual meeting of the Northern Thames Sub-Province of the Farmers’ Union.

Mr Jamieson moved that the executive be requested to bring under the notice of the Government the necessity for legislation granting financial assistance to: (1) soldiers on active service, overseas or in New Zealand, who arc in danger of losing their property or business through not being able to meet commitments while on active .service; (2) parents and guardians of soldiers who are in danger of losing their property or business owing to their sons being on active service, thereby reducing the earning capacity of their properties or business owing to laboui' shortage; (3) to meet rates and interest changes ... on properties of soldiers or their parents where it can be proven that owing to war service, of . members of their family the income is so reduced as to make it hardship to meet such charges from income.

This was seconded by Mr Minifie and carried.
