RUGBY FOOTBALL
At a meeting of the management committee of the Taupiri Rugby Union held on Monday evening, Mr. F. Harris was elected chairman for the ensuing season. Delegates from all the clubs were present, also a deputation from the Waikare Union, who will probably enter teams in the local competitions this season. Entries for the competitions close on Monday next, and so far as can be seen at present there will be four senior teams, viz., Renown, TaupiriNgaruawahia combined, GordontonTe Hoe-Orini combined and a team fiom the Waikare Union. The restriction of the number of senior teams is expected to greatly improve the standard of play and some excellent contests should be witnessed this year. The open junior competition promi e to be keenly contested and so many entries are expected that it is probable that this competition will have to be run in two sections. So far, entries are expected from Huntly, Huntly Rovers, Glen Afton, Te Hoe, Taupiri, Ngaruawahia, Glen Massey, Gordonton, Orini, Renown and the Waikare Union, but there may be others. Great interest is being taken in the se\en-a-side tournament to be held at Taupiri on Saturday next. Post entries will be accepted. The Renown Club’s No. 1 team for Saturday will consist of Hart (3), Griffiths, Broughton, Peckham * and R. Clout and probably two others. Teams from this club will take part, but these will be made up from players available on the ground.
