King Haakon, replying to a telegram from the Presidential Board of Norway, refused to abdicate, on the ground that lie- was best serving the interests of Norwegians by retaining his position. He added: If conditions arc created, permitting the Government and myself to return, we shall immediately do so, conditionally on all, foreign ■military forces leaving the country. The arrangement made between Germany and the Presidential Board imlies that the German occupation would still he maintained. Therefore, I see no possibility of the existence of a free Norwegian Government in Norway.; It is obvious that the State Council would be compelled to follow German direction, as long as Norway was occupied. CONTROL OF TIN SUPPLY. RUGBY, July 8. The International Tin Committee a,t a.' meeting in London, considered the agreement made with the' United States authorities regarding the purchase of reserve stocks. In a modification of the communique issued on May .27, the Committee has fixed the production quota for one year as from July 1, at 130 per cent of the standard tonnages.

The Tin Producers’ Association says that the increase in the tin export quota to 130 per cent for the next twelve months means that the tin producers will now work to the utmost capacity.
