The “movie 'within a- movie” angle of the picture centres upon Edmund Lo vo appearing as a Hollywood .'•tar who, sick at being typed in mystery parts, walks off the set and takes the fateful coastwise steamer voyage. Miss Lnndi, playing the author of the picture out ol which lie has “walked,’’ also embarks on the 1 steamer, determined to bring the actor back at any cost even to devising a make-believe murder. When the hoaxed murder turns out unexpectedly to he ; a real one the complications begin. The occurrences both abroad in the weird Chinese theatre are full of suspense and interest but the picture achieves more of a distinction in not taking itself too seriously but rather in kidding itself and mystery plots in general. To this effect the appearance in the supporting cast of Zasu Pitts and led Heal.v, an uproarious comedy team if there ever was one, was a master stroke of casting. Also good supporting programme. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. “THEODORA GOES WILD.” Gav, light, sophisticated comedy concerning the adventures of a small town ' gir] who tries to get her big city man 1 in big city ways will be unlock'd in ' Columbia’s “Theodora Goes M ild. ■ starring Irene Dunne, coming on Wednesday and Thursday to the Princess Theatre. Melvyn Douglas appears in the main male 'ead with Thomas Mitchell and Thurston Hall in supportRichard Boleslawski directed the film, which marks Miss Dunne’s debut in a comedy rale. Also Springboks v. -All Blacks 2nd Test, Springboks v Otago. REGENT THEATRE. TO-NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. “UNDER YOUR SPELL.” The star attraction at the Regent Theatre thought, features Lawrence Tibbett in 'the 20th Century-Fox release. “Under Your Spell.’’ The sparkling' new tune hits '“Amigo,” “Under Yo J: M.v Little .Mule Waggon” are by Broadway’s Rhythm Kings, Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz, and sung as onlv I ibbett can sine them. Such favourites as Wendy Barrie Gregory Ratoff and Arthur 1 readier are in the supporting east. A -singing cowboy—and a green eyed heiress. The supporting programme includes, Aussie News, Musical Mood and two reel comedy.
