HOTELKEEPER FINED. (Per Press Association—Copyright). CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. The first claim in Canterbury for a penalty under the compulsory unionism legislation was heard to-day, when the Labour Department sued Oliver Francis Watson, licensee of Lancaster Park Hotel, for employing four nonunion barmen. It was explained that Watson employed a large staff on days when football matches were played on the park, and although they were only employed for a short space of time, they were given award wages of £1 per day. However, they were not members of the iiriioh,'and at the time there were- union »barmen outs, of, employment. A penalty of 5/- : was imposed on each charge by Mr Reid, S.M.
