Jt is impossible to build battleships which cannot he destroyed from the air is the view of the sub-committee of the Imperial defence committee under the chairmanship of Sir Thomas Inskip. It urges the continuance of experiments in light of the increased power and range of aircraft. It expressed the opinion that capital ships can he designed with deck and side armour to minimise the possibility of fatal damage from the air. ■= - ; No air force could replace >the navy in protecting tjhe Empire. :iv
