RIPE OLD AGE
J, DC ROCKEFELLER’S BIRTHDAY , JV.. . NEW YORK, July 13. John D. Rockefeller celebrated his 97th birthday without indigestion, although he ate a good meal for an old man. He said he considered his present good health a miracle, and was con-, fident of living to 100, although he would not give up even then. He rose early on his Lakewood (N.J.) estate, arid received thousands of congratulatory telegrams and letters. His daughter, granddaughter, grandson, cousin, and a few friends were his guests at dinner, which included consomme, fresh lamb from the millionaire’s private flock, asparagus, peas, and acid-free milk. Rockefeller then ate a slice of a huge birthday cake which was topped with 97 candles. Later, after a siesta, and despite the heat, temperature ranging to 92, he put on a sun-helmet and drove in his car over the estate, and for 20 miles along the roads.
