TREASON CHARGE MAY FOLLOW (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, July 20. The “Daily Mail” says: The authorities are not ignoring the possibility of a charge of high treason against McMahon (Bannigan). Precedents have been examined by Sir Edward Atkinson in collaboration with Scotland Yard. tl is recalled there were firearms incidents at the beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign. These- led to certain acts being made high misdemeanours, including “to discharge, point in the air, or present at a Sovereign any gun or other arms, whether containing an explosive or not; or to strike or throw anything at a Sovereign with intent to injure or alarm him,” for which the punishment may be seven.years, and a whipping. The authorities are bearing in mind the danger of these being imitative incidents ; though no sweeping changes a re contemplated for the protection of His .Majesty.
