EQUIPPING SCOTLAND YARD

LONDON, June 8. The time should not be far distant when Scotland Yard will be able to talk to all the police forces of the country by wireless.

A first sign of this is the appearnace of three wireless masts at Denmark Hill, the site of u,e Y r ard’s new receiving station.

A transmitting station of similiar nation-wide capacty is shortly to be established on the outskirts of London, probably in North Kent, which is now being surveyed. Both transmitting and receiving stations will be connected with Scotland Yard by land lines, and will be operated from there directly. When the links are completed the operator at the Yard will he able to send code telegraph messages or talk to all provincial police stations suitably equippe3. He may even, if the various authorities are willing to spend the money for the necessary apparatus, be able to transmit pictures of “wanted” men.

In Brighton police constables carry portable wireless sets, and can iccoue messages from the local police headquarters while on their beats. The London technical experts stated- v “ s " terda.v that Scotland Yard had made experiments with this svstem, hut had no yet found it practical owing to the number of tall buildings p 4 greater electrical disturbance in the metropolitan area.
