WELLINGTON GALE
RAGES FOR 2 DAYS RIMUTAKA; BLOCKED. (Per Press Association, Copyright), WELLINGTON, July 15. Accompanied by heavy rain, a southerly gale raged in Wellington since early on 'Suhday morning. Heavy seas washed the harbourside, but no damage was done. A certain amount of street flooding was apparent at the low levels.- at Petone explanade, where a portion of the corrugated iron fence was demoliished. Several, vessels due yesterday, did. not. arrive, but are expected this’ morning. A slip on the Rinuitakas blocked the road for several hours.
A party of tvampers who had been in the eastern ranges were unable to cross the flooded Orongoronga River, and had to spend the night in huis on the other ‘side, but they will he able to return this morning.
