TOWARD MUTISM EMIGRATION

Tlie uoverumt.it will irut encourage emigration so long as the present state ,oi acute unemployment- continues, according to a statement made by the Prime Minister (the Tlon. G. \Y. Forbes) by .'telephone, from Wellington to-night.
Mr horbes was asked to comment on the announcement by cable that ■Mr Malcolm MacDonald, the British Parliamentary Under-Secretary foi the Dominions, is to report to his Government on the attitude of New Zealand and Australia toward a revival of Empire migration. “Immigration into this country, is not actually prohibited,” said Mr Forbes, “but not a great- many people are comiivr in. They can enter the country ,but we are not assisting immigrants, in any way, or giving anv encouragement to immigration. It is necessary, furthermore, for new arrivals to have a- certain amount •of moans, so that there will he no immediate possibility rf their having to depend on the country for support.”
