AUCKLAND LOANS
TO COMPLETE RELIEF WORKS. (Per Vresfi Association, Copyright' AUCKLAND, Jan. 23. Tlie proposals oi l the Auckland City Council to raise loans totalling £95,400 for completing the present No. 5 Scheme relief works as constructive works, at standard rates of pay, which were submitted to a *poll of the ratepayers to-day were carried by a substantial majority. Only 2.663 cotes were recorded out of a possible 25,499. There were two proposals. No. 1 was for the raising of £6B 030 to enable the No. 5 Scheme of works to be closed as such and completed ns unemployment constructive works. The second proposal involved the raising of £27,400 to meet the expenses of modernising Victoria Arcade building. “The official cessation of the No. 5 Scheme so far as the Auckland City Council is concerned, marks a definite step towa.ds the placing of a large number of the unemployed on a much better footng,” said the Mayor (Mr G. W.
