OBITUARY

The death took place ap Westland Hospital at an early hour this morning of Airs Cutbush, wife of Air Albert Cut hush of Beach street, after a short hut severe illness. The deceased was a well known and popular figure in the town. She was a native of Wellington, and "41 years of age. She leaves a husband and family of two daughters (Nora and Lucy), and two sons (Fred, and John). Her parents, Air and Airs John McCarthy, reside at f Petone, and there are also two brothers and-one sister.

The death lias occurred at- Wakefield, of Mr. Frederick Faulkner, in his 101st year. His father, with his two sons, came out to Australia in 1852, a few years later coming to New Zealand and settling at AVaihola, south of Dunedin. After some years he returned to England, but came hack to New Zealand. Looking for a milder climate, he chose the Nelson district, eventually settling at Wakefield, were Mr Faulkner lived for 58 years. When five years of age in England, Mr Faulkner had a severe attack of small pox, the doctor remarked that if he recovered he would live to be 100, a prophecy that came true. Air Faulkner was unmarried. PIONEER PASSES. BLENHEIM, January 11. Another of Canterbury’s pioneers in the person of James F. Rudd, died at Springlands, Blenheim yesterday. He was born in 1856 in Yorkshire, England and arrived in Lyttelton in 1866, in l the ship Victory. He was the first scholar at Creendale school Canterbury, over 60 years ago. The, Rudd; family in 1870 took up land at Greehdale and in 1912 J. F. Rudd purchased Summerlands Marlborough. For the last ten years he lived a retired life in; Springlands.
